The Cannes Film Festival, called the International Film Festival from 1946 to 2002. It’s an international film festival. It helds every year in Cannes for twelve days during the second half of May.
The Origin Festival
This event was created to reward the best film (grand prize), director (director’s award), actor, actress (men’s and women’s awards) of the international competition. Other prizes awarded by a jury of professionals, artists and intellectuals. And they appear later as the jury prize and above all, the ultimate prize, the Palme d’or.
These awards are very important for all cinematographers.
Indeed, the Cannes Film Festival is very important. Because it attracts all the professionals of the world of cinema (directors, actors) and generates a strong media attention.
Many movies can be recognized by the general public. And it develops their reputation and visibility by increasing their purchasing opportunities.
2023 Edition
For its 76th edition, the Cannes Film Festival will be presided over by Swedish director Ruben Östlund. It chosen after winning the Palme d’Or for his film «Sans filtre».
After Rossy de Palma in 2022, the French actress Anaïs Demoustier will be the President of the Jury of the Golden Camera. She will reward a film among all the first feature films presented in the Official Selection and parallel sections.
Chiara Mastroianni, after Virginie Efira, will lead the opening and closing ceremonies of the Festival.
Beyond films, it has always established itself as one of the most chic events on the planet. Because a lot of celebrities coming up the steps of the Palais des Festivals to present one or more works.
A selection of films will be proposed and will make dream movie lovers. But also the general public with the promise of an audience of stars worthy of the most beautiful Hollywood evenings.
With its opening film Jeanne Du Barry, the festival promises the arrival of Maïwenn, Pierre Richard or Benjamin Lavernhe. But it is especially Johnny Depp that all eyes will look for when climbing the steps of the palace.

Projections by country
This edition will be tighter and more open to the world, with more countries represented.
For this year, Thierry Frémaux spoke announcing a geographically expanded selection.
This festival will have the chance to welcome countries that have not had the habit of coming. For example, Mongolia which comes for the first time in official selection. It will be present for the first time on the Croisette in the section « A certain look ». With the movie Hopeless, it’s the first film by Kim Chang-hoon.
There will also be “a strong presence of the African continent with many women filmmakers.” The African continent will be represented by no less than six films in the various sections. It is including Banel and Adama by Ramata-Toulaye Sy (Sibel), French of Senegalese parents, on a passion hampered by conventions.
Singaporean cinema, which has made rare appearances in Cannes. It will see the presence of director Anthony Chen for The Breaking Ice. Which evokes the friendship between three young adults in their twenties.

Films and actors confirmed
Many films will be present for this special edition 2023.
The movie «Jeanne du Barry» by Maïwenn, signs the return of Johnny Depp on the big screen. It will be screened at the opening of the festival.
Other movies have also been confirmed and will be screened in preview in the presence of cinema monuments. Such as Martin Scorsese, with his film «Killers of the Flower Moon», with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.
After Tom Cruise last year, Harrison Ford will take the steps for the fifth round of “Indiana Jones,”. And she will be presented out of competition.
Finally, the highly anticipated short movie by Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar, «Strange Way of Life». It will be screened in the official selection, followed by a meeting with the director and his team.
Finally, the new Pixar cartoon entitled «Elemental», will be presented in preview for the closing of the Cannes Film Festival.
Today, the Cannes Film Festival is the largest film event in the world, whereas only a few decades ago. In 1939, it was only a modest festival created to oppose the Venetian Film Biennial and its organization with Mussolini and Hitler.
